Roald Hoffmann was born in 1937 in Poland. He came to the U.S. in 1949 and has been at Cornell University for 47 years. He was awarded the 1981 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. In chemistry he's taught people how to think about molecular orbitals. Hoffmann is also a writer, carving out his own land between poetry, philosophy, and science.
