ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
The Moth is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. The Moth has presented more than thirty thousand stories, told live and without notes, by people from all walks of life to standing-room-only crowds worldwide. The Moth is hiring for two interns for a six-month period, beginning in early 2022. We are looking for applicants with a strong work ethic, a desire to learn new skills, and a passion for stories and community building through storytelling.
Applicants must be able to commit to the full six-month session, we do not accept applications for summer-only interns. Internships are 32 hours per week and take place at our New York City headquarters during office hours (The Moth is currently operating on a hybrid, remote and in-office schedule) (M-F, 10-6) with occasional hours taking place at events around the city. The Moth provides an hourly rate of $15/hour.

DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP
Responsibilities include:
Ensuring data in CRM database (PatronManager) is accurate and up-to-date
Researching information about potential foundation/government funders and individual donors and prospects using internet tools
Communicating with donors and other members of the public via email, telephone, and at live events
Assisting in writing foundation/government proposals and reports
Assisting in all aspects of membership, including ticket reservations, customer support, and the planning and execution of our annual spring gala, The Moth Ball
Writing letters of thanks to donors
Supporting with planning of events, including workshops, pre-show parties, and other donor cultivation events
Supporting the office with a variety of administrative tasks
Assist with at least one StorySLAM a month (possibly more, depending on the schedule) and all NYC GrandSLAMs and Mainstages
Other duties, as appropriate
Qualifications:
Exemplary customer service
Tech-savvy; loves to learn new systems
Interest in cultivating the skills necessary for fundraising in a non-profit organization
Superior writing and internet research abilities
Excellent communication skills
A love of The Moth’s work and mission
Experience working or volunteering with not-for-profit organizations, preferably in a fundraising capacity
Value of internship:
By the end of the internship, the intern will have a grounding in all aspects of not-for-profit development. They will have gained hands-on experience in institutional giving, galas, and membership programs, and would be great preparation for anyone who may be interested in a career in arts administration or fundraising.
